ABOUT THE PROJECT

Description

Driving-related problems continue to arise as the urbanization reaches higher levels and number of people, using cars, increases. Parking is one of driving-related problems, most of citizens face daily. Lack of information about parking spaces make drivers to search free spaces and waste important amount of time.
Our team created a system which gives people an information about availability of parking spaces and analysis of parking zones during the daytime. We created hardware which can be implemented on parking spaces and a website for the user to access this information. Our system will give an opportunity to the driver not to waste time for searching parking spaces and navigating, also it will help the user to plan his/her day more mindfully.
The aim of the project is to record information about each parking place which can be on private spaces (such as stores, restaurants, hotels and business offices) or public, like street side parking. Project aims to reach and monitor a large area (PIC 1) where there is no internet access or the access of electricity is limited.

What We Did

  • Designed and assembled circuit which measures inductance and gives analog output.

  • Designed and assembled PCB for inductive sensor.

  • Programmed microcontrollers for reading sensor values, compressing and sending it via LoRa transceiver radio module

  • Created data packaging protocol for the system

  • Assembled gateway circuit with atmega328, RFM96 LoRa, OLED Screen and WiFi module. This device will receive our radio packages from slave devices and upload data into the server.

  • Designed a hardware protective cases for Gateway and slave which were 3D printed.

  • Designed a system testing grid.

  • Created a demonstration web-page for the project.

  • Created a web-page for the user to access and see the visualized data.

  • Created a database of the parking data, for the web-page.

Mariam Narchemashvili

  • Ensure proper interconnection of sensors, microcontrollers, main processing server and client-side application.

  • Setup reliable, secure and robust TCP/IP connection to database and USART communication to Master transceiver.

  • Monitor and control data flow from microcontrollers to database.

  • In case of some detected errors related to sensors on a parking space, alert it to administrator.

  • Provide administrator privilege to manually unite many unique microcontrollers in one parking space.

HARDWARE

Inductive sensors are located in the ground, below the upper layer of asphalt. The sensor detects change of magnetic flux of coil which is caused by presence of metallic object, which is car. Sensor control collects induction information from several coils and sends to LoRa gateway.

Wireless communication using Long-Range system is designed to support such places where there is no internet access There is one gateway connected on the server There are several LORA slaves which transmit the data from several sensors to gateway using chirp spread spectrum modulation technique.

STAGE ONE

In the first stage, sensors detect if the specific parking place is free or not. Inductive coils are located in the ground below the upper layer of asphalt. The sensor sends resonant signal to the inductor, calculates if the magnetic flux is changed and detects objects (car). Sensor collects inductance from several coils separately and sends the data into transmitter module.

SERVER-SIDE APPLICATION

The user of this application is administrator of the project who monitors and controls every process occuring in the service. On the homepage of the app, user has 3 options with their statuses. First, he must open connection to database, then choose Port and open serial connection to Master controller. After user ensures that each connection is stable then he can control start receiving data and uploading it database or stop it at any time.
we can see status of every option which are represented on the homepage of the “Electri.city” application. After setting up the main process we can move to other pages of the app simply click on the next button. Next page is about monitoring the real-time date inserted into database. Here user can fetch the main table and overview what happens in the table where the following data are place – ID of the parking which means controller with 8 sensors attached to it, and state of the sensor which measures whether there is located a car on a certain place or not. In case of error during measuring (a sensor might be broken, microcontroller might fault to measure right value…) there will be record indicating that the sensor on a certain parking ID is damaged and administrator should solve this issue. As we can see on the figure, its monitoring and controlling page of the main database.

WEB PAGE

Created an ASP.NET web application in visual studio. Used MVC framework for the project.

First of all, I started with "home page".

Then I started creating “sign up” page where our future users can register for the web page to start using our program. For this part I added data library and visual studio SQL Demo Database to save all the registered users’ data.

After that I created another SQL Demo Database for parking locations, and below are provided pictures of my "search parking location" and "view parking location" pages. 

And finally, i created a background of some particular parking space, which will be marked corresponding to the "open" and "filled" parking spots.
